The problem of providing
reserve lubricant on gear teeth has been considered. A method suggested
for ball bearing assemblies, to pack compositions
containing solid lubricants in depressions of
retainers, inner rings, etc., so that reserve lubricant
would be available, seems out of place in gears. The
solids used were graphite or molybdenum disulfide or mixtures of the two. While
solution of a problem of this nature is desirable, immediate results are not
apparent.
